Joseph H. Leiner, 88, of Higganum, CT, passed away Tuesday, May 28, 2002, at Roncalli Health Center in Cromwell, CT. Services will be Saturday, June 1, at Biega Funeral Home in Middletown. Officiants will be his granddaughter, Rev. JoAnn Kunz, and Pastor Rob Booth. Burial in Burr District Cemetery. Friends may call at Biega Funeral Home Friday from 6 to 8 p.m., and are invited to join the family at a reception at the Higganum United Methodist Church following the Service.

Joe was born August 6, 1913, in New Britain, CT, the son of the late Anton and Johanna (Binder) Leiner. He was married May 14, 1935, for 64 years to the late Hazel Bolles Leiner (Bolles Number: 1994) until her passing February 1, 2000. Prior to his retirement, Joe worked for many years for the Ward Maier Co. and later retired as a Sheet Metalist from Union Lodge #40, Rocky Hill, CT, where he a 50-year life member. He was a life member of the B.P.O. Elks Lodge #771. Joe was active in The Bolles Family Association, having served for twenty-four years as the photographer and moviemaker. and as a past Secretary. He was honored as a life member at the 24th reunion last year. Joe and Hazel  were original charter members of The Bolles Family Association and remained active throughout their lifetime. He leaves a daughter and son-in-law, Hazel and Jerome Niland of Annville, PA; a son and daughter-in-law, Richard J. and Marilyn Leiner of New Britain, CT; two brothers, John E. Leiner and Edward Leiner, both of New Britain; a sister, Sylvia Fredericks of New Britain; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers, Anthony Leiner, Carl Leiner, and Frank Leiner.
