Higganum, Connecticut

Hazel Bolles Leiner, 87, of West Shore Drive, Higganum, CT died Tuesday, February 1, 2000, at Middlesex Hospital in Middletown.

Mrs. Leiner was born August 22, 1912, in Kensington, CT. Before retiring, she was an employee and volunteer at New Britain General Hospital. She was active in Higganum Grange No. 124 and was a Sunday school teacher, clerical worker and member of the New Britain Methodist Church.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Joseph H. Leiner; a son Richard J. Leiner of New Britain; a daughter Hazel Niland of Annville, PA; a sister, Margaret Enders of Kensington; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral was Friday, February 4, at 11 a.m. at Higganum United Methodist Church, Higganum CT. Burial was in Burr District Cemetery.



Note: Hazel Bynner Bolles Leinier #1994 was the sixth of the nine children of George Judson Bolles #1365 and Sarah Bynner. She was a great-great granddaughter of Deacon John Bolles #98 of Hartford, CT, who is considered the founder of the First Baptist Church of Hartford.

Hazel and her husband, Joseph Leiner, were long-time members of The Bolles Family Association. They have attended most of the reunions, serving as Secretary for several years. In addition, Joseph’s slide presentations of past reunions are always a featured event, as he is the Association photographer and moviemaker.
